Alease was born May 16, 1927 to George Garnett and Lucille Garnett. She attended public schools in the County of King William and graduated from King William Training School, which later became Hamilton-Holmes High School. She had a talent for arithmetic. At young age, Alease accepted Christ and became a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. In 1953 she married Temple Mills and they were together for 35 years until his passing in 1988.
Alease worked in the manufacturing industry for over 40 years. She worked at Albemarle Paper Company for many years. After that employment she worked at A. H. After retiring she continued to drive to Richmond and Mechanicsville on a regular basis for many years.
Alease like to make cakes and most of all she liked to make pound cakes. Her family and friends would often say that her pound cakes were "delicious" Her other joy was supporting Homecoming activities at her church and for years she made her special pound cake or provided pies for Homecoming dinners. Also, she enjoyed the Christmas season very much. Christmas was her favorite celebration. We also remember that she enjoyed bowling and was very proud of her bowling team.
Alease was very strong in her faith in God. She believed that the Almighty would always show her the way. She was mostly a quiet person and enjoyed life at home. For years she was oldest one in her family. She will be greatly missed by members of her family, by her friends and by her neighbors.
Surviving are her devoted foster sister and caregiver, Barbara Anderson and her husband Warren Anderson; her special cousin, Douglas Brooks and his wife Rosa Brooks; her favorite cousin, Mary Christian; many other cousins, long term friends as well as friends of many years from work, including, Mary Anderson and her long term neighbors.
