Obituary

Andre Carter peacefully entered eternal rest on April 22, 2026.  He was born on September 3, 1957, in Washington, DC to the late Casper and Grace Carter of Caroline County, VA.  Andre was the youngest of six children.  He was also preceded in death by his oldest brother, Ernest Carter.

Andre graduated from Phelps High School in Washington, DC.  He worked for many years as a skycap at Reagan National Airport and Richmond Airport.  Andre would later move into paint making at Sherwin Williams.  From there, he moved on to join the Henrico County School System as a maintenance worker where he worked until he retired.

Outside of work, Andre thoroughly enjoyed football and was a huge fan of the Washington Redskins/Commanders.  He also enjoyed basketball, boxing and golf.  Andre was known to play the lottery, and he kept his children's and grandchildren's birthdays on rotation.  He was a dedicated member of Richmond Christian Center.  Andre was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who appreciated the simplicity of life.

Andre leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Chiquita Gerald (Corey) of Greensboro, NC and Tshombre Carter (Nicole) of San Diego, CA; sisters, Gayle Thurston (Bill) of Raleigh, NC and Marilyn Carter Johnson (Shelby) of Ruther Glen, VA; brothers, Ronald Carter (Lona/deceased) of Hyattsville, MD and Stanley Carter of Cheraw, SC; grandsons, Tshombre Carter Jr. and Nashom Carter; granddaughters, Ndasia Gerald and Anisia Gerald; nieces, Wendy Harper and Takiyah Montgomery; nephew, Alexander Carter; longtime companion Karen Williams; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
