Anne Beatrice
Lewis Hicks "Anniebea"
October 29, 1942 – August 2, 2020
ANNE L. HICKS, born October 29, 1942 to the late Lloyd Lewis Sr. and Delia J. Lewis in Hanover VA departed this life August 2, 2020. She was preceded in death by her three brothers Lloyd (Mop) Lewis Jr., Arthur (Yellow Man) Lewis and James (Butch) Lewis.
Anne affectionately known by family and friends as AnnieBea, was a product of the Hanover County school system. After graduating high school, she would continue her education at Virginia State College. There she met her husband, William Hicks Sr. (divorced) and two children were born from that union.
Anne loved to sing in church or anywhere and she loved to cook. Her love of children and helping others led her to a career in social services. She was a teacher, social worker, probation officer, Chief hearings officer for the Commonwealth of Virginia and Director of Social Services. Anyone who knew her would know that her home was always open and you could get a good meal, laughter, friendship and anything you needed.
Anne leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter Tracey Hicks, son William (Julianna) Hicks Jr.; four grandchildren Badiyyah Hicks, T'mia Leach, William Hicks III, and Kendall Hicks. Two great grandchildren ZyAire Hicks and Nala Debruin; three sisters; Helen Minor, Lenora (Isiah) Roach, Mattie (Leonard) Walker; one son-in-love Rochester Kee; a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children and friends.
As I Sit in Heaven
As I sit in Heaven and watch you everyday,
I try and let you know with signs, I never went away.
I hear you when you're laughing
And I watch you as you sleep.
I even place my arms around you
To calm you as you weep.
I see you wish the days away
Begging to have me home,
So I try and send you signs
So you know you are not alone.
Heaven is truly beautiful, just you wait and see
So live your life, laugh again, enjoy yourself, be free
