Anthony Edward
Jones, Sr.
June 13, 1951 – February 27, 2022
Anthony Edward Jones, Sr (Tony) was born to the late Nellie Jones Barnes and James Edward Hale in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 13, 1951. He passed away in peace surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at the age of 70.
At an early age, Tony moved from Philadelphia to Caroline County, Virginia to live with his late Godparents, Lynn and Josephine Jones. It was during this time in which he joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Supply, Virginia.
During his teen years, Tony played football, basketball and was in the band at Union High School. After graduation in 1969, he attended Virginia State University until his marriage in 1974 to Cherlon, his high school sweetheart and the one he called his "pretty wife". To this union, they welcomed two children, a daughter and a son.
He always said the best job he had was working at North Anna writing drafts for surveyors. However, he went on to work for Weyerhaeuser in mechanical maintenance and then at Bear Island Paper Company for 33 years until his retirement in 2013. A year later, he rededicated his life to Christ.
Tony was blessed with a loving family and many friends who enjoyed being with him on "the porch" where he would be the captain of his own ship. He held a long list of attributes and constantly talked to his family about the importance of being a hard worker and provider. To sum Tony up in just a few words, he was a D.J., a grill master, an athlete, a substitute teacher, a mentor to many, the life of the party and most of all, a fisherman.
Tony was preceded in death by his sister Lois Mae Roye. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Cherlon Jones; his children, Latonia Procter (William) and Anthony E. Jones, Jr.; one god-daughter, Renay Neely; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Talmesha, Dedrick, Demitri, Anthony III, Isaiah, and Nakari; five great-grandchildren, Leah, Chase, Aniyah, Germani and Paris; siblings Maurice Woods (Alice); Audrey Jones, Gwendolyn Foster, and Sandra Johnson; one mother-in-law, Mary L. Price; one god aunt, Ruth Beverly; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; two aunts-in-law; one uncle-in-law; one devoted friend, James Spearman, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
