Bannie Lee Mines affectionately known as "Sonny Boy" departed this life and entered into eternal rest on August 9, 2016 at Memorial Regional Hospital. Bannie was born on March 4, 1935 in Dawn community of Caroline County, VA to the late John and Mamie Mines. He attended the Caroline County public schools. He gave his life to Christ on March 23, 1997 and joined Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church. On October 30, 1954 he was united in holy matrimony to the late Gertrude Elizabeth Paige. To this union one daughter and one son were born. Bannie was employed by Meadow Farms for over 40 years. He later was employed by Mr. Harris from which he retired. He was presented a plaque on March 27, 2010 for celebrating the 40th Birthday anniversary of the legendary race horse champion "Secretariat". Bannie was an extraordinary man loved from the young to the old. He always expressed a quiet loving spirit, he had a good heart, and he would give you his last. To know him was truly to love him.
Bannie was preceded in death by his parents John and Mamie Mines, 2 brothers Australia Mines, Mancell Mines and a sister Louberta Folly, one son Byron Harris and one daughter Gloria Smithers. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted daughter Anita Baylor (Craig Hill), a devoted son Orlando "Bubba" Mines (Elizabeth) of Caroline County, 13 grandchildren among them 4 devoted James Baylor Jr., Renata, John and LaTear Mines. 12 great-grandchildren, one loving sister Viola Ross (Charlie), a foster sister Eva Baylor, a foster brother Albert Goodall (Barbara), an aunt Louberta Montgomery of Brooklyn, New York, 4 sister-in-laws: Hazel Mines, Mary Catherine Mines, Rosetta Feels and Joyce Whitson (Ricardo), devoted nieces Ruth Quash, Diana Green, Renee Pierce, and Valarie Few, 2 devoted nephews Wilbur and Carson Folly, 3 devoted friends Gene Pleasants, Wade Smithers, Harry Lee Anderson and numerous other relatives and friends.
