Obituary

Obituary Betsy Ann Johnson, one of nine children of the late George and Mary A. Johnson, was born March 30, 1952, in the Dawn area of Caroline County, Virginia. Betsy departed this earthly life suddenly on Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Betsy completed her education in the Caroline County Public Schools, graduating from Bowling Green Senior High School in 1970. She was baptized and joined Second Mount Zion Baptist Church at an early age. When she moved from Virginia, she often visited other churches near her home, but she always considered Second Mount Zion her home church because it was where she and her family received their spiritual foundation. Betsy eventually moved to the Washington, D.C. area and was employed by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. She was devoted to her job and was an exemplary employee for more than 30 years. Betsy was a dedicated single mother whose primary focus and commitment was her sons. She was family-oriented and loved nothing more than coming home to Virginia for family gatherings. She especially loved cookouts, which became miniature family reunions with the mutual outpourings of love. She was an awesome mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. In addition to her parents, Betsy was preceded in death by three brothers: Kevin, George and James Johnson. Betsy leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Michael Anthony Johnson (Joy) of Charles County, Maryland and Christopher Patrick Chapman of Oxon Hill, Maryland; five grandchildren, Michael Anthony Johnson Jr., Indeya Taylor, Brooklynn Johnson, Loren Chapman, and Donovan Swann; three sisters, Mary Malinda Jordan (Aaron) of Temple Hills, Maryland, Vienna Johnson Jordan and Jacqueline Thomas (Lonnie) of Caroline County; three brothers, Robert Johnson (Susie), Kenneth Johnson of Caroline County and Ronald Keith Johnson of Fort Washington, Maryland; two uncles, Stewart Johnson (Naomi) and Mervin Waller (Judy); two special and devoted friends, JoAnn Douglas and Nora Jackson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
