Obituary

Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend Bobby Wayne Pleasants transitioned to his eternal reward on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

Bobby Wayne Pleasants was born February 14, 1954, to Hattie and Walter Pleasants in Doswell, Virginia. One of nine children, Bobby grew up in the Doswell community and was educated in the Hanover County public schools. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior to become a member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church in Doswell, Virginia. After graduating high school, Bobby enlisted in the Marine Corps on February 8, 1973. Bobby was a proud veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps for twenty-four years. Throughout his years of service, he received numerous decorations, medals, badges and commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Rifle Expert Qualification Badge. For the majority of his military career, he worked in Engineer Equipment Operations and went on to finish his military career as Chief Equipment Engineer. He grew through the ranks, after several deployments overseas, to retire as a First Sergeant completing twenty-four years of honorable service to his country. Following his retirement from the military, he continued his career through roles as a public servant and as an entrepreneur. He retired from public service as a consultant from the Georgis Department of Transportation in February 2022.

For 68 years, we were blessed to have Bobby in our lives and to have known him was to love him. He was a man of few words but was known for his strength and resilience. As the patriarch of his family, he always provided support and encouragement. After retiring from the military, Bobby resided in Stockbridge, Georgia where he joined the fellowship of the Floyd Chapel Baptist Church in Stockbridge, Georgia and was elected to serve as Deacon. Bobby was highly, and some say he was a master of everything. He could be called on to answer question about any subject, sharing his knowledge and giving advice to all who would ask. His military background continued to shine throughout his life, as an engineer, he could fix just about anything. Bobby was known for his beautiful smile, his deep belly laughs and his many stories reminiscing about growing up in Doswell, Virginia. Besides his family, Bobby's second love and true passion was Golf. On any given Sunday afternoon, you could find him on the green, perfecting his game. While Bobby had many accomplishments and recognitions throughout his life, family and friends were the most important to him. He cared deeply for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, siblings, cousins and extended family.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents Hattie and Walter Pleasants, his wife Linda Pleasants, his brother Marshall Pleasants and brother-in-law Thomas Quash.

Bobby is lovingly remembered by one son Roddell Pleasants (Regina), three daughters Latonia Pleasants, Natarsha McAllister (Tahashi), and Bobbie Pleasants; one stepson Torre Daniels, four grandchildren Cordavier Dunn, Lyndse Warner, Sumarayon Smith, and Phylicia Pleasants-Gonzalez,; four great-grandchildren Kingston Dunn, Kristian Dunn, Kade Dunn, and Ayden Smith; two brothers Deacon Donald Pleasants (Vera) and Reverend Walter Pleasants, Jr. (Joyce); five sisters Shirley Quash, Theresa Ancarrow (William), Brenda Parker (Leonard), Eunice Kendell (Steve), and Bridgett Robertson (Brian); one aunt Veronia Eberhardt (Henry); one uncle James Anderson (Helen); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
