Obituary

Bridgette Renee Jackson transitioned peacefully from this life to eternal life on December 31, 2023. She was born to the late Millard Fillmore Burruss and the late Veronica (Jones) Burruss. Bridgette was the oldest of 6 children and was always eager to lend a helping hand to lighten her mother's load. She was a natural caregiver with a Heart of Gold and shared her mother's passion of caring and providing for others.

Bridgette was united in marriage to Marlon James Jackson for 17 years, and out of this glorious union were born two beautiful children. She is survived by her daughter Brittany Marquis Jackson, and her son Nicholas Omari Jackson. Nicholas is united in marriage to his beautiful wife and companion, Anna Jackson. They share two sons, Noah and Nolin, who gave Bridgette the special blessing of grand motherhood. They affectionately called her "Nana," and cherished their time together. Bridgette is also survived by sisters Cherilyn Farmer, Michelle (Brandon) Robinson, Myesha Farmer-Bantjes, and brothers Xavier (Angelita) Burruss and Spencer (Catherine) Burruss, as well as the older siblings, Monica (Wayne) Anderson, Ramona (Antoine) Williams, Yulanda (Joseph) Johnson, Nichole (Michael) Ferguson, Nakita (Vonzell) Mattocks, Mario Burruss, Jon (Kristin) Jones and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved family members and friends.

Bridgette graduated from Caroline High School and was accepted to several esteemed universities. She decided to attend Virginia Commonwealth University where she received her Bachelor of Arts and her Master of Arts Degree. She loved to learn and enjoyed the classroom environment. Following her graduation, she worked at Verizon for more than a decade, and then moved on to work in her most recent role with the U.S. Department of Energy where she worked as a Program Support Specialist. Her colleagues remember her as always being eager to assist with any task and going above and beyond the call of duty to get the job done. She was an exceptional employee who will be remembered for her team spirit, resilience, and strong work ethic.

Bridgette took great pride in caring for her family and she always made special occasions spectacular. She would shower her loved ones with special gifts and little thank you notes and cards to show how much she cared and appreciated the people in her life. It brought her great joy and happiness to cook delicious recipes, and she always wanted family and friends to experience her ultimate southern hospitality. Holidays were filled with awaking to the glorious scents of home cooked dishes. She mastered many of her mother's famous recipes to include the "out of this world" sweet potato pies, assortment of cakes, corn pudding, potato salad and yams, as well as many other signature dishes. She enjoyed making Green Bean Casserole, which became a delightful addition to family meals. Everyone left the table with a full belly, and no one hesitated to make a to-go plate to enjoy at their leisure. Bridgette always provided more than enough for everyone and sought to live an abundant life.

Bridgette's favorite color was Purple, and she always wore it with Beauty and Grace. A Royal Color for a Royal Queen, a Magnificent Child of God. She shared her mother's genuine adoration for the talented artist and performer known as "Prince." They were always excited to attend Prince concerts together and enjoyed watching his movies redundantly. They would listen to his music for hours and watch his videos and various television performances. I can just imagine them now, both singing and jamming to his tunes in their heavenly home.

Bridgette was a devoted Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Nana, and Friend.  A kind and beautiful spirit. She will be remembered as a woman of Faith who Always trusted in the Lord. She was quick to help anyone in need and would give a stranger her last portions to keep them safe and warm. She cherished the love of her family and friends and She will Live in our Hearts Forever.
