Obituary

Carol A. Smith peacefully transitioned on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at his home.  He was born on August 2, 1940 to the late Richard H. and Ruth A. Smith of Hanover, Virginia. Upon conformation he became a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Hanover, Virginia, where he served as junior warden and sang in the choir.  He was a faithful member until his health failed.

In addition to his parents, Carol was predeceased by his two sons Carl Alexander and Gerald Wayne Smith.

Carol was educated in the Hanover Public Schools, after which he was employed by Brumbel Antique Furniture shop for 20 years as a cabinet maker.  He was then employed with James River Correctional Center for 32 years and retired in March 2016.

Carol loved sports and played baseball in high school as a catcher. He also had a love for drag racing and built his own sport truck.

Carol was united into holy matrimony on August 6, 2016 to Symeanar Derricott of Ashland, Virginia. They traveled, went on cruises and just enjoyed life.

Carol leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted wife Symeanar Smith, one son, Brian Smith(Antoinette), three brothers, Earl C., Richard L. (Patricia) and Thomas W. Smith; six grandchildren, Jasmine, Jason, Taryn, Sarai, Brianna and Brain Jr., seven great grandchildren, Michael, Misa, Cameron, Cadence, Kimani, Kamille, and Kamiah. One stepdaughter Nicole Derricott, two step grandchildren children, Izaiah and Nevaeh. Two sisters in law, Patricia (Richard), Brenda (Everette) Spindle, six brothers in law, Lloyd (Vita), Curtis (Ruby), Lorenza (Sandra), Gerald, Dennis (Susan) and Donald (Adrienne) Derricott. Two aunts, Pearl Winston and Marion Williams, one uncle, Richard Green. A devoted niece Sherry Smith, A devoted friend Rev. Leonard Davis. Caregiver Taneka Brown and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be private.
