Carolyn E.
Wright
February 12, 1947 – April 18, 2024
On February 12th, 1947, a beautiful daughter was born to the late Rosa Gates and James Deane. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her oldest son, Brian Maurice Wright.
Born and raised in Hanover County, Carolyn received her education in the Hanover County public schools. She was a 1965 graduate of John M. Gandy High School. Carolyn later went to Cosmetology School and received her license.
She was baptized at a young age at Pottomoi Baptist church under the leadership of the late Reverend Walter L. Downs. She became a member of Pleasant Grove Church in 1978 during the merger of Pottomoi and Pleasant Grove Baptist Churches. She attended Church School, was a devoted member of the Missionary Ministry and was a member of the former Matrons. Her community affiliations included serving in the Chickahominy Baptist Association Women's Division for many years where she served as President for a period of time.
Carolyn started her working career at an early age. She worked for several years at Azalea Bowling Lanes. She then pursued a career in her profession as a licensed cosmetologist at Hair Biz and later at T's Barbershop until she suffered a stroke which curtailed her ability to continue.
Everyone and anyone who was fortunate enough to meet Carolyn knew she had the best attitude towards life. She had a quick wit and an endearing sense of humor. She was however also known to be rather candid in speaking her mind, where even on her challenged days she would keep you laughing. She was devoted to her family, church and friends.
Carolyn peacefully transitioned on Thursday, April 18, 2024. She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted son Wayne Wright; devoted grandchildren, Charles Woolfolk, Kavon Wright, and Aliaha Wright; great grandchildren, Jahseh Woolfolk and Nehemiah McKnight, cousins Reginald, Steve and Melvin (Terry) Gates; Herbert, Lillie Rainey, Melba Rainey-Sayed, Marcella Price, Alphonso "Mickey" Price, Pat Taylor and Ronald Roane; adopted sister, Darlene Walker (Cyrus); ex-husband, Thomas Wright, in-laws, George Ronnie (Gloria) cherished friends, Phyllis Pollard, Janice Robinson and a host of other loving cousins and friends, Last, we can't forget her two favorite cats, Kitty-kitty and Greedy.
