Carrie Josephine
Norwood Mcmillian
March 14, 1933 – September 28, 2024
A Beautiful Soul, Carrie Josephine Norwood McMillian, age 91, returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 28, 2024. She was born and raised in Pittsboro, NC. Carrie was the middle child of the late Robert and Bessie Norwood.
Carrie was married to the late James E. McMillian. The couple spent their early years in Sanford, NC and in 1962 the young family moved to Richmond, VA. From their union, they have two sons, Vernon Scott, and Edward Earl.
Anyone who knew Carrie could not help but love her! Carrie was Extra Sweet, from the inside out, and she Loved the Lord. She accepted Christ, as a young girl and joined Ebenezer A.M.E. Zion Church in N.C. Carrie was a Fervent Prayer Warrior and a Bold Witness for Christ. In RVA she was a member of Triumphant Baptist Church for many years. Later she joined Faith Landmark Ministries, where she served for over 23 years. While even in her eighty's, Carrie and her best friend, Irene Jenkins, faithfully did nursing home visitations. Carrie also worked and retired from Westminster Canterbury for over twenty plus years.
Carrie was well known for having a green thumb, a home full of plants, and a passion for cooking. She was the best cake baker ever! Carrie spoiled her children with an abundance of love and good eating. She leaves her family with so many fond memories, for which we are thankful.
Carrie was preceded in death, by her husband of 47 years, James E. McMillian, and her sister, Willie Mae Smith.
Carrie leaves cherished memories to her two sons, Vernon Scott, and Edward Earl. Carrie also has four grandchildren, Ciara, Emmanuel, Joy, and Zoie, and one great-grandson, Isaiah and one brother, Thomas Norwood. As well as a devoted daughter-in-law, Gloria.
Although, we know our mother is residing in her heavenly home, Grandma Carrie will be forever missed, more than words can say. She was loved dearly and will never be forgotten! Furthermore, her legacy will live on for generations to come.
