Obituary

Catherine Doswell Dabney was born January 16, 1932, in Hanover County, Virginia. She was born to the late Cora and Harry Doswell.

Catherine accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at The Greater Nazarene Baptist Church in Mechanicsville Virginia. She attended the Hanover County Public Schools. She graduated from The Hanover Training School and furthered her education as a certified nursing assistant. Catherine's employment history consisted of working at the dentist office in Hanover as an assistant, certified nursing assistant at Stratford Hall Nursing Home, Learning Center Supervisor and later Food Service Worker for the Janie Porter Barrett Juvenile Correction Center. After retiring she fulfilled her lifelong dream of cooking for others by becoming the owner and chef of Catherine's Kitchen.

On November 19, 1949, she married the love of her life Horace Edward Dabney. From their union came three daughters: Geneva, Cathy, and Antoinette.

Catherine was a faithful and devoted member of The Greater Nazarene Baptist Church until her health began to fail. Some of the beloved ministries that she so proudly served were Sunday School Teacher, Trustee, Women's Ministry, Deaconess, Missionary, CBA, Culinary, Usher, Choir Member, and wherever else she was needed. Catherine was a loving and caring person with great love for her family, friends, and community. She was a role model as 4-H leader and fulfilled her love for traveling as founder of the Peter Fox Club and the Traveling Community Choir.

On Tuesday January 13, 2026, at 2:50 P.M. The Matriarch was called to her Heavenly Home surrounded by her family and loved ones. Heaven has gained a true Angel. Catherine was predeceased by her brothers Sylvester Doswell, Harry Doswell, and Anson Bell (Phyliss), her cherished Aunt that raised her, Arlene Thornton, and her Nephew Andrew Doswell.
