Charlie Wilbert Ross, affectionately known as "Shoonie" answered his call from our Heavenly Father January 22 nd , 2021 at the Memorial Regional Hospital.
Charlie was born in Ruther Glen, Virginia to the late Janie B. and Nell Ross on October 31 st , 1934. He pursued his education in Caroline County Public Schools where he jokingly described that he walked over 6 miles, on a snowy day; and the teacher wasn't there. He joined the Second Baptist Church at an early age and later moved his membership to Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he attended regularly until his health began to fail.
On January 3 rd , 1953 he married his soulmate, Viola Mines and they were married for 68 years. From this union three daughters were born that he loved unconditionally; Ruth, Diana and Charlene.
Charlie pursued his passion as a Groomsmen at the Meadow Stable; where he was distinguished as "The Man" who gave Secretariat (Big Red) his first saddle. He also took great pride serving at the All-American Truck Stop in Doswell, Va. He met a lot of great friends and cherished relationships that lasted a lifetime.
Charlie's hobbies included singing gospel with the male group "The Domineers"; where they traveled and spread the word of God. He enjoyed traveling to the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Horse Races in Pimlico, Maryland and Belmont Stakes in Saratoga, New York with family and friends. He loved his red lawnmower so much that he rode it even when he wasn't cutting grass. He loved caring for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was known for his saying "One for the Road, Cop for the Chaser" and his favorite song was "Nearer my God to Thee." His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the LA Dodgers. He watched Steve Harvey and Sanford and Son every day!
He leaves to cherish his memories to his loving wife Viola M. Ross, daughters Ruth (Raymond) Quash, Diana (Roy) Green, and preceded in death by Charlene and Curtis Peatross. Grandchildren Dominique (Stacy) Ross, Ramon Quash, Curtis (Temeka) Peatross, and Morishita Peatross. Three adopted Grandchildren Gayron, Catherine and Brittaney Few. 12 Great-grandchildren Dominique, Callay, Takia, Brandon, Briana, Jahmal, Jaida, Jaquan, Chloe, Charlynd, Scotlynd, and London. Two Brother-in-laws Edmond Baylor, and Albert (Barbara) Goodall, Three Sister-in-laws; Lena Ross, Hazel Mines and Eva Baylor. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; one devoted niece Valerie Few.
