Chauncey Harlee Burton , was born on January 28, 1926 in Cape Charles, Virginia to the late Robert L. and Lula Burton. He was the youngest of eight siblings. He was preceded in death by all seven siblings, Thomas, Herbert, Robert, Susie Nottingham, Mary Roosevelt, Pagie Randolph and Clementine Roberts.
Chauncey was educated at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, Pa. prior to joining the United States Army where he served 2 years. Upon receipt of an honorable discharge, Chauncey joined the Philadelphia Police Department special unit where he worked as a "special agent" in the 9th District for six years. Chauncey later joined Boeing Airline in Philadelphia, Pa. working in the Research Division for 30 years until his retirement.
Chauncey was united in holy matrimony to Carrie Maude Winston on September 9, 1950. He was a loving and devoted husband for 66 years until God called Carrie home on January 25, 2017.
At a young age, Chauncey was baptized at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pa. and served actively on the Deacon Board until his retirement when he and Carrie relocated to her home place in Virginia. Chauncey was always very passionate about his home state of Virginia and was happy to return.
Chauncey was a loving, caring, and generous person who loved the Lord and was always eager to share a word from the Lord with everyone he came in contact with. He loved to talk and share the Bible with anyone willing to listen. Chauncey loved the Lord and enjoyed teaching others about His goodness. He spoke endlessly about the love of Jesus.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a lovingly devoted niece and caretaker of many years, Saundra W. Jordan, whom he dearly loved as a daughter; one sister-in-law, Anna McLean Shelton; a great number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, cousins, and many friends and relatives.
