Obituary

Cynthia Winston entered eternal rest on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at her home. She as born on January 16, 1960, to the late Algie and Lillian Smith. She was lovingly known to her family and friends as "Boobie".

Bobbie was educated in Hanover County Public Schools and graduated from Patrick Henry High School, Class of 1979, where she proudly served as a cheerleader.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Bethany Baptist Church, where she sang with several choirs. She also served faithfully as the music director for the youth choir, a role she truly cherished. Before singing her solos, she would joyfully declare, "Come on, church, put your hands together!"—and then allow the Lord to use her gifts to bless everyone in the sanctuary.

Over the years, Boobie was employed with Best Products and later with Bowlero Corporation, where she worked until her health declined.

Boobie will be remembered for her softspoken voice, her gentle peck on the cheek kindness, her unwavering generosity, and the joy she brought to every room she entered. Her radiant spirit, authenticity, and genuine heart left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She refused to participate in conversations that tore others down and instead chose to encourage, uplift, and speak from a place of love.

Boobie also had a playful side—she enjoyed a good board game of Yahtzee and was a devoted Pokeno player among family and friends. And she was known far and wide for making the best fried chicken.

When Boobie became ill, her high school sweetheart and husband of 46 years, Hayes Winston, stepped in with selfless devotion. As her loving caregiver, he provided comfort, compassion, and unwavering support throughout her time of need.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Algie and Lillian Smith, and her nephew, Craig Houchens.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her devoted husband, Hayes Winston; her son, Hayes Winston Jr.; her siblings, Shirley (Wallace) Deborous of Newport News, VA; Matilda Houchens of Newport News, VA; Carolyn Houchens of Montpelier, VA; Joe (Corlis) Smith of Newport News, VA; and Calvin (Eva) Smith of Temecula, CA; two aunts, Peola Gaines and Octavia Phillips; her in-laws, Ruby Harris, Marion Hunter, George (Carolyn) Winston, Margaret (Leroy) Cary, Geraldine (Richard) Lindsey, Jean (Jerry) Holloway, Ronnie Winston, Samuel (Zina) Winston, and Donna Mae (James) Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.

Boobie's life was a beautiful example of compassion, kindness, devotion, and grace. She leaves behind a legacy of love and light that will continue to shine in every heart she touched. She fought a mighty good fight. May her soul rest in eternal peace with our Heavenly Father.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23
