Edward Cauthorne "Smoke"
January 11, 1946 – June 5, 2022
James Edward "Arthur" "Smoke" Cauthorne, entered into eternal peace, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday June 5th, 2022, at his home in Henrico, VA. He was born January 11th, 1946, to the late James Arthur Cauthorne and Nancy Frances Cauthorne. Two angels that ascended before him included his loving son, Keith Hockaday and loving daughter Demetria Cauthorne.
Arthur received his education from Richmond Public Schools. He was later drafted into the United States Army in 1968. Arthur had an exceptional Work ethic which was conveyed through his employment at Stuart Circle for 29 years and at St. Mary's for 17 years.
Arthur was a legend in numerous fields. He received the spotlight during his football career with the Mighty Green Dragons of Maggie L. Walker High School. He started out as a trainer and made his way to quarterback proudly wearing number one. While using his arm of steel to throw the ball, he and his team conquered many touchdowns. As a fashionable legend, Arthur was known to put together suits of many colors and styles with the shoes to match. He would occasionally throw on a hat to really set the look off. Arthur was also a legend among his church family where he showed his dedication to the Lord as a member of the Deacon Bord and soloist on the Men's Chorus at Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church. In spite of his illness, his most recent legendary moment took place in the choir stand where he was able to shout and share his testimony to just Look at What God had done for him.
Arthur was the heart of his family and welcomed everyone in with open arms, a huge smile, kind words, and even a joke or two. He was an unwavering Washington Redskins Fan despite the many name changes, from The Washington Football Team to now The Washington Commanders. He also Showed his unconditional love and support to his family, friends, and in the community where he Coached Football at Marshall Walker and John Marshall.
James "Arthur" Cauthorne leave to cherish his memory his loving wife of 14 years Crystal Cauthorne; 5 children Jamie Cauthorne, Ameisha Broadnax, Kristen, Kimberly, and Kelsey Cauthorne; 4 grandchildren Dejohn and Jones Wison jr., Karter Broadnax, and Jordan Robinson as well as 3 grandchildren Demyah, Mariah, and Skyler; one sister Laura Johnson; devoted sister-in-law Mary Merideth; a host of nieces, nephews, amongst them devoted Alonzo Hunter (Delinda), Katrina Tillman, Benjamin Hunter, Denise Ferguson (Michael), Valerie Hunter, Keisha Tillman, Marki Meridith, Michael Liggans (Tyra) and Matthew Liggans; devoted cousins Charles (Butch) Edwards, Moses and Lorene Tillman, Mason Tillman; devoted friends and caregivers Mr. & Mrs. Arthur and Williana Williams; a host other cousins and friends amongst them devoted Pastor Clifton and Nina Williams.
