Roy Mayo Shelton III entered eternal rest at his home on Friday, September 30, 2022.  He was born on January 6, 1941 in Hanover County, Virginia to the late Roy Mayo Shelton, Jr. and Malinda Mines Shelton. He was affectionately called by family and friends Roy Jr. or Tonio just to name a few.

He was educated in the Hanover County Public Schools, graduating from John M. Gandy High School in 1959.  After graduating, he entered the United States Air Force serving as Airman First Class Regular Air Force.  His tenure included Thule Air Base in Greenland, Kincheloe AFB, Michigan and Ent Air Force Base, Colorado.  He was granted an Honorable discharge on June 17, 1964.  For most of his working life, Roy was employed at Reynolds Aluminum Company from October 23, 1968 until he retired on May 30, 2005.

Deacon Roy was a devoted member of Ashland Christian Center. He loved serving faithfully, joyfully and diligently as an Ordained Deacon, Trustee of the Usher Board, the Greeters Ministry and the Visitation Ministry.  He was a very loving, caring and humorous story telling person that was a blessing to all who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memory; the love of his life, wife of 59 years, Bessie Jones Shelton, 3 children, Debbie Edwards (Edgar C Edwards Jr; "EC"), Shireen Rivera (Carlos), and Roy Mayo Shelton IV (Karen). 8 grandchildren; Charles "Wesley", Eleana Figueroa (Ray), Jasmine, Austin, Roy V, Cierra, Evan and Kyrese. 3 great grandchildren; Zaila, Makaio and Zabella. 1 sister, Lillie Pearl Shelton, 1 aunt, Ann Mines, 2 brother-in-laws, Elmer Jones and Kenneth Bettis, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and several devoted friends.
