"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

2 Timothy 4:7-8

Charles Wesley Fox (Johnny) entered eternal rest on February 3, 2021 at 7:38 am at Memorial Regional Hospital in Mechanicsville, Va.  He was born on February 28, 1938  in Spotsylvania Virginia  - the eldest of 7 children -  to the late Noland A. Fox, Jr and the late Georgia Pauline Fox.  He attended school in Caroline County.  He started work at an early age to support his mother and siblings after the sudden passing of his father.  He was a devoted son, brother and role model to his younger siblings.  He was well loved and admired by his family and community.

Johnny accepted Christ at an early age at Jericho Baptist Church.  After meeting the love of his life, Mildred A. Johnson, Johnny and Mildred were joined in holy matrimony and to this union three children were born, Charlene, John and Beatrice.

After moving to Coatesville, Johnny joined St. James Baptist Church where he served faithfully for over 60 years until his health declined.  There he served as a deacon, a member of the male chorus, an usher and a member of the Travelling Jubilees singing for over 28 years.  Johnny was loved by his church family.  He had a servant's heart and was always available to his family and community.

Johnny was a hard worker.  He loved to rise early in the morning to get his day started.  He worked most of his career at Flippo as a truck driver.   He loved his job as a truck driver.  He saw driving every day as a joy and he loved being on the road.  He was also an avid fisherman and all-around outdoorsman.  He could "hear the grass growing".  When he retired from Flippos, he worked at Mica Mines with Howard and Josh Smith who were devoted and supportive friends throughout his life.  Over the years Johnny, Howard, Josh and the Smith family became more like brothers than friends.  Johnny would call on them for anything  - no questions asked and he loved them dearly.

Johnny was well known throughout the community for his generous spirit, kind heart and positive disposition.  After the passing of his wife, he continued to love and support his immediate and extended family.   He loved spending time with his grandchildren who were the apples of his eye and "his babies".  You could always depend on Johnny when you needed him.  He taught us love through his pleasing disposition, actions and good deeds.

Johnny's sisters would say that Johnny was the sweetest brother and he loved his sweet treats.  Johnny was one of a kind.  One of his last requests was for his chocolate covered tasty cakes and a chocolate Hershey bar.  He loved his chicken wings, collard greens and turkey legs. He was not afraid to request his favorite dishes and had confidence that they would be delivered on time.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents Noland and Pauline Fox and his beloved brother Haywood Fox.

Deacon Fox leaves to cherish his memories two devoted daughters Charlene Foxx-Lewis (Troy), Beatrice Fox-Boyd (Jerald); one son John Fox and Lakisha Adams who was reared as his daughter; seven grandchildren Britney King, Torrez Lewis, Riana Boyd, Destiny Boyd, A'mirrah Lewis, Aliah Boyd, and Elijah Boyd; three devoted sisters Frances George, Thelma Boone, Pauline Burnett Turner, three brothers Rev. L. Nolan Fox (Sheila), Robert Johnson and Lewis Fox; a special devoted friend Eleanor Phillips; devoted friends including Eldridge Smith, Billy Ray Smith, Monroe Smith, Howard Smith, Josh Smith, Ruby Smith, Elaine Braxton and Spencer Curtis Jr.; devoted cousin, Doris Thomas and many dedicated nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Broken Chain

We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name,

In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you,  you did not go alone,

For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,

And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same,

But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

The family is asked to assemble at the church by 12:45 p.m. on the day of the funeral.
