Deaconess Joyce
Ann Holmes Moore
January 3, 1941 – January 13, 2024
Deaconess Joyce Ann Holmes Moore was born January 3, 1941, to the late Louise M. Brown and transitioned from this world of cares to her eternal home on January 13, 2024, at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Hospital, in Mechanicsville, VA. She was married to the love of her life, the late Benjamin Franklin Moore, for 62 years, and they were the proud parents of six sons.
Joyce was a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-love, stepmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She loved her family, friends, and community dearly. Joyce was affiliated with several churches in the area: Mt. Sinai, her home church, where she accepted Christ and learned to work as a youngster; Mt. Olive when she lived in the neighborhood; and Baptist Liberty, where she was ordained as a Deaconess and served as Chair Lady of the Kitchen Committee, as well as sang in the choir. Joyce served with enthusiasm and deep devotion. She later joined Rock Spring Baptist Church with her husband and continued to serve diligently until her health began to decline.
Joyce was educated in King William County Public Schools, and, in later years, was employed there as a bus driver for over 35 years.
Joyce was preceded in death by her mother, husband, son Donald L. Moore, and granddaughter Brittany L. Moore. She leaves to cherish her memory five sons—Benjamin Franklin III, Ronald Moore, Leonard Moore, Kirk Moore, Reginald Moore—and stepdaughter, Carinell Shackleford (Russell), all of King William, VA; an aunt, Shirley Christian (William) of Richmond VA; sister-in-law, Clara Jackson, of King William; daughter-in-law, Sheila Broaddus, of King William; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She also leaves her devoted granddaughter and grandson, Jasmine Moore Freeman (Montinique) and Jermaine Moore, who were always there when she called; as well as two special caregivers, Latricia Warner and Dr. Sylvia Statton.
