Deaconess Peggy
Wright Wingfield
October 5, 1938 – March 3, 2021
Deaconess Peggy Wright Wingfield departed this life on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. She was born on October 5, 1938 in Mt. Olive, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her daughter Goldie Hobson.
Peggy was a faithful member of the Greater Nazarene Baptist Church where she served as Deaconess, member of the Music, Ushers, and Culinary Ministries. She was in charge of the baptism attire where she personally took them home to be laundered and had them available for all new candidates for baptism. As a member of the Prayer Intercession Team, Peggy could often be found alone in her prayer room praying for others. Peggy and her husband John were always one of the first to arrive to church for Sunday school. Peggy was always prepared and actively participated in class ready to read a scripture or answer a question. The young as well as the old loved Peggy. If you needed a mint, candy, BC or tissue, find Mrs. Peggy. She always had what you needed as well as a kind word, hug, and a loving smile.
Not only was Peggy a faithful servant in the church, she was a dependable and respected member of the community where every parent trusted her to provide day and after school care for their little ones. Peggy had so much love to give and was always willing to provide loving care to the countless number of kids that have spent time in her home.
Anyone who has ever visited her home would quickly know how much Peggy loved her family and friends. The "trophy wall" of pictures is where she proudly displayed photos of any and every one that she loved; and Peggy has never met a person that she didn't love. She tried to make you feel special by baking her famous chocolate cake for your birthday or surprising you with a pot of homemade soup just because she wanted to.
Peggy leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband of 55 years, John Melvin Wingfield; five sons John Wright Jr., James, Ricky, Grover, and Leroy (Antoinette); seven grandchildren Brian Wright, Maurice Hobson Jr, Christine Hobson, Jonathan Wingfield, Brittany Wingfield, Jonathan Wright, and Tre Wright; two great- grand-children Amelia Wright and Aubree Wright; a devoted daughter- in-law Ellen Wright; two brothers Willie Lee Wright (wife Virginia) and Preston Jun Wright; and a host of special friends who she loved and cherished deeply.
