Obituary

Doris Victoria Thompson-Harris affectionately called "Nana Mama" went home to be with the Lord early Thursday morning, January 12, 2017.   She was born July 12, 1922 to the late Anviel and Cora Jackson James.  She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Wilford Harris, daughter Joyce Mines, son Michael Thompson and grandson Dwayne Mines.  Doris accepted Christ at an early age and became an active member of Abner Baptist Church.  She was a longtime member of the Pastor's Aide. She was a native of Hanover County and attended their Public Schools.  She spent many years employed by the Gilman Family.  In her early days, she spent much of her time watching over her grandchildren.  She was blessed to continue that role by pretending to be a 7 year old student named Victoria, taught by her 9 year old great granddaughter, Brittany.

Throughout her short period of declining health, she remained witty and responsive to her family. She leaves to mourn her loss and cherish her memory, her daughter Barbara Mines ("Eddie"); granddaughters, Tracey "Nesie" Jackson (Owen), Sandy King (Tracy), Toya Trueheart (Micheal), Shantay Johnson (Jermaine); great grandchildren, Brittany Dixon (Stephone), Corey and Nicholas King, I'mani Garrison, Jekhi, Jesiah and Jesahn Johnson; son-in-law, Joseph Mines; nephew Howard James (Edna). Step-children Earnest Harris (Margaret), Ethel Harris, Herbert Harris, Queen Dixon (Anthony) and Paulette Harris and many other family members and friends.
