Dorothy May Brooks was born on April 6, 1937, to the late Bennie and Nellie Jones in Hanover County, VA. She was the 10th of 11 children born to this union.

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, Dorothy, lovingly known by all as Penny went to be with her Savior. Penny was educated in the Hanover County School System. She worked as a domestic for many years until she later transitioned to Hanover County Schools Public schools, working as a lunch aide.

Penny was a friend to all and enjoyed taking care of her home and cooking for those she loved. She was famous for her sweet potato pies and macaroni and cheese.

Penny was a faithful member of Brown Grove Baptist Church. Even as her health began to decline, she made her way to service and made sure she saw" her Pastor".

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Carol Brooks, Sr.; loving parents, 9 siblings, and three children Franklin "JB" Jones, Joyce Brooks, and Anthony "Cook" Brooks and two grandchildren: Cheryl Dorsey and Kevin Dollar.

Left to treasure her memories are her sons Carol "Jimmy" (Gloria), Roger (Nichelle), and Calvin (Lavern) Brooks; sister Cora Lee Edwards; twenty-one grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, and great- great grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, one son-in-law, loving nieces Helen Minor and Lenora Roach, special friends Pauline Merry, Edith Coleman, Annie Carter and forever riding buddy Pearl Harris.
