Obituary

Dorothy Stevens , 80, of Hanover, VA went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 24, 2021.

Dorothy was born on November 3, 1940 to the late Isaac and Nancy Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Stevens, Sr.; one brother, Leroy Brown; and two sisters, Shirley Smithers and Evelyn Roots.

She was educated in Caroline County Public Schools.

Dorothy accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, and joined the Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Dorothy was a loyal, faithful and dedicated member, and she also served on the Library Committee and Senior Choir.

Dorothy had a strong work ethic and steadfast devotion to her loved ones.  She was employed at Westminster Canterbury, where she retired with 29 years of service. Known for her beautiful smile, Dorothy had the gifts of love, kindness and hospitality that she shared with many.  She had a great passion for cooking, she loved to sing, and she enjoyed spending time with her family, children and grandchildren, whom she adored. The love and joy she shared and received from her family was also shared with all those she touched.

The family is very grateful for the wonderful and compassionate care Dorothy received, and for the outpouring of love and support extended by so many during her brief illness. Special thanks and love go to her caregivers for their dedication and compassion.

She is survived by her children; daughter, Veraline Stevens; sons, Arthur Stevens, Jr. (Sandra) and Ryan Stevens, Sr. (Shontai'); grandsons, Ryan, Jr., McCartha, Isaac, and Arthur Stevens III; brother, Joseph Brown, sisters, Rosa Morris, Erma Baylor (Samuel) and foster sister Joyce Bonner, as well as many nieces including one devoted Regina Morris, a host of nephews including one devoted Curtis L. Roots, many cousins including three devoted Blondie Hunter, Pearl Minor and Carol Foxx, many friends including three devoted Aretha Fields, Brenda Kenny and Howard Sills well as other relatives and friends, who will miss her dearly
