Earnest Gray Henry, Sr., 74, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. He was born December 7, 1942 in Hanover County. He was the son of the late Julia Henry Winston, Ulysess Abram Henry Sr., Lilton Winston Sr. (step-father). He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Linda Carolyn Elizabeth Mines Henry and siblings, Laverne Henry Fox, Ulysess Henry Jr. He re-dedicated his life to Christ in his later years and attended various churches with his children.
Earnest "Gray" graduated John M Gandy High School in Hanover County. After high school, he went to trade school where he graduated as a carpet mechanic (carpet installation). Everyone knew him as the man to call if you needed carpet. Not only did he install carpet, but he also trained and helped others to obtain jobs as carpet mechanics.
Earnest "Gray" was not known for eating a lot, but he was the master chef for fixing chitins, ham and spaghetti. When he cooked, he would call his children to come over to eat.
He leaves to cherish his memory, 9 children, Earnest Jr., Randall (Cathy), Alex (Carol), Darrell (Chantell), Edwin, Eileen (Vance), Julia (Kemal), Linda (Ernest), Sheryl (Victor); 29 grand children (3 devoted – Jazmend, Rechelle, Aryiana), 20 great grandchildren, 7 siblings Virginia Crockett, Wilbert Henry, Claudine Dabney, Judy Thompson (Aubrey), Gail Thomas, Jewel Redford (Earnest), Lilton Winston, Jr. (LaVerne), a devoted cousin, Harold Cobb Sr., a lifetime friend, James "Champ" Champion and a host of other relatives and friends.
