Edith "Sis" Watkins Lewis went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May, 26, 2020. "Sis" was the youngest of two children, born to the late Samuel Watkins and Edna Carter Watkins.
"Sis" was preceded in death by her husband, Shellie Lloyd Lewis, Sr. whom she married on September 27, 1959. To that union 3 children were born, one daughter, Cathy, who preceded her in death, and 2 sons, Shellie Jr. and Mark.
She received her education in the public schools in Philadelphia, PA and later in Hanover, Va. She moved to Hanover as a teenager. "Sis" was a basketball player in high school and was voted Best Dressed in her graduating class.
"Sis" was baptized at Brown Grove Baptist Church and later moved her membership to First Baptist Church Elmont where she was a past member of the hospitality committee.
She worked many years outside of the home and was a great private nanny to many families in Richmond and Hanover. "Sis" loved her family and was an excellent cook. Everyone loved her turkey salad and macaroni salad. She enjoyed traveling and shopping for stylish clothes and shoes. Listening to music and playing cards and bingo and watching Wheel of Fortune were some of her favorite pastimes. She enjoyed the company of friends but adored keeping up with all the things going on with her family.
She leaves to cherish treasure her life and legacy, her sons, Shellie Jr. (Constance) and Mark (Felicia); son in law, Earnest Harris; grandsons, Jordan Harris, Austin (Tenesha), Aaron, and Christian Lewis, granddaughters, Kelsey Harris and Camryn Lewis; great-grandson, Jarell Lewis and great-granddaughter, Shaya Harris. Niece,Diane Marrow (Charles), brother inlaw, W. Scott Lewis (Margaretta); sister in laws, Barabra Corum and Jane Lewis. A host of cousins and friends. A devoted cousin Aretha Williams and Devoted friend Nettie Tyler.
