Evelyn Gregory, daughter of the late Eddie Gregory and Adell Baylor Gregory-Pleasants, was born on September 28, 1948, and passed away peacefully at Hanover Manor Assisted Living on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
From a young age, Evelyn dedicated her life to Christ and began her spiritual journey at Second Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member until she left for college. After earning her degree, she relocated to Northern Virginia and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Arlington, Virginia. She was deeply committed to the church's Usher Ministry and served with unwavering dedication, ultimately accepting the role of President. She never turned down a task, no matter how busy or tired she was, always serving with a willing heart. Upon returning home, she eagerly resumed her work in her beloved home church, particularly with the "Little Light Society," which she cherished and served in until her illness prevented her from doing so. Despite her health challenges, her faith and love for God remained steadfast.
Evelyn possessed an extraordinary intellect. She graduated as the Salutatorian of Dawn High School before attending Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She dedicated her professional career to Social Security Administration.
Beyond her professional and church life, Evelyn had a deep passion for traveling, reading the Bible, listening to music, and collecting art. She was known for her generosity, compassion, and unwavering advocacy for those in need, always championing the underdog.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her brothers Robert Louis Gregory, James Gregory, and Joseph Pleasants, as well as her sister, Linda Flanagan and niece Brandy Pleasants.
She leaves to cherish her memory to a loving family, including her nieces and nephews Jessica Braxton, LaToyoa Braxton, Joshua Braxton, Lance Braxton, Brittanie Phillips (Jamar), Latrice Robinson (Canaan), Kevin Foster, Robert Gregory Jr. and Eddie Gregory. along with a host of great-nieces and nephews. She will also be dearly missed by her longtime devoted friend, Phyllis Moore-People, sister-in-law Nancy Pleasants and many other caring friends.
Evelyn's legacy of faith, service, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
