Jackson "Buzzy"
April 26, 1934 – January 30, 2021
Franklin Delano Jackson, 86 of Ashland, Virginia transitioned peacefully into eternal life on January 30, 2021 at the VCU Medical Center. Who was born on April 26, 1934 to late Rev. Andrew and Rena B. Jackson.
"Buzzy", as he was affectionately called by family and friends matriculated through the public school system of Hanover County and participated in a brief tenure of the U.S. Army. Buzzy was no stranger to work, he retired from 42 1/2 years at Reynolds Metals where he was Vice President of the Union Local 400 AFL-CIO and first African American to be titled Leadsman of the South Plant. His love of driving lead him to be a Bus Driver for 16 years between Hanover County and Henrico County Public School Systems. He also served as a Bus Driver for Kings Dominion Amusement Park seasonally for 15 years, as well as a Coach Bus Driver for Hall's Tours.
When Franklin saw the need to serve his community, he did just that; as an Organizer of the Berkley Town Neighborhood Watch and the second African American Member of the Ashland Town Council.
His heart was given to Christ at and early age and his relationship with God grew more and more fonder as the years went by. He joined the Union Baptist Church and later transfer his membership to Shiloh Baptist Church of Ashland, where he once served as President of the Usher's Union Board, Usher's Ministry and member of the Diaconate.
Franklin is preceded in death by Franklin "JB" Jones (Son), Alvin Jackson, Sr. (Brother), Yvonne Tinsley (Sister), C. Michelle Dorsey (Granddaughter), Harmony Coleman-Jackson and Kamiyah Johnson (Great-Granddaughters).
He leaves to cherish his memories: Wife of 39 years Gwendolyn Jackson, Four Sons; Delano and Jeffery Jackson, Nathaniel and Deon McKan, One devoted Daughter Karena J. Jackson. 20 Grandchildren, 37 Great-Grandchildren; one adoring Kaeden T. Winston. Mother-In-Law, Mildred Hawkins. Father -In-Law, George (Bobbie) Hawkins. One Sister, Min. Shirley James. 10 Nieces and Nephews; 2 dedicated Ronnie Tinsley and Michael Jackson. Numerous Cousins; 3 dedicated, Connie Williams, Kathy Stewart, and Brian Best and a host of friends.
