Obituary

His Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord . Matthew 25:21 KJV

Gale King Brooks, 65, peacefully entered eternal rest, on Friday, April 9, 2021 at St. Mary's Hospital.  Gale was born the eldest child of five children to Regionald M. King, Sr. and Virginia Louise (White) Bolling, on May 15, 1955 in Richmond, Virginia.

As a child, she was affectionally known as "Dale" by family and many in the Greenwood Church community.  As the oldest, she lovingly cared for her younger siblings while her parents worked.  She was educated in the Hanover County Public School System, graduating from Patrick Henry High School in 1976.  After graduating high school, she was united in marriage to Anthony E. Morris, Sr., and from this union two wonderful children were born.

Gale held various jobs (cashier at Revco Drug Store, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for Homecare by Professionals, substitute Cafeteria worker for Henrico County Schools, but found the most joy working at Food Lion Store #681 (Kings Charter) in Ashland, VA where was a loyal employee providing 20 years of service.  She easily befriended many customers and co-workers who were like her second family. Gale was recognized as the "Count on Me" Store Associate Winner in 2019 as she always went above and beyond in providing customer service.  If you ever stopped into Food Lion and if she knew you were in the store, she would not miss the opportunity to greet you with a hug and a smile and offer some word of encouragement.

Gale accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Greenwood Baptist Church, Ashland, VA.  At Greenwood, she participated in Choir Ministry and Sunday School.  She later moved her membership to Greater Nazarene Baptist Church, Mechanicsville, VA where she rededicated her life to the Lord. She was a dedicated member and church became a second home to her as she loved serving the Lord with a smile.  She was very active in multiple ministries – Ushers, Culinary/Hospitality, Pastor's Aid, Missionary, Choir, and Praise Dance ministries. She loved coming to church early to clean, prepare and decorate for Homecoming Sunday, Pastor's Anniversary or any event or program that would be held at the church.  She also enjoyed praise and worship and you could find her swaying and praising God while ushering at the door during service.  She also loved going to revival services and attending church services at churches in Hanover and surrounding counties. She was a faithful member of the Hanover County and Vicinity Ushers Union and then joined the United Christian Ushers Union of Mechanicsville.

Her favorite pastimes were sewing, socializing, dining out and shopping. She would often carry her sewing machine with her wherever she went. She loved using her gift to make curtains, hem clothes, and more recently make face masks for family, church family and friends. She loved shopping and you rarely saw her without her daughter or her granddaughter by her side.  She was always finding good deals and bargains and was often a personal shopper for her mom and grandmother, family, and friends.  During one of her shopping trips, she met Wilbur Brooks and they were united in Holy matrimony in October 2008, as she often recalled this day being one of the "happiest days of her life."

Gale was a social butterfly who never met a stranger she could not strike up a conversation with and greeted anyone she met with a smile. She cherished time spent with her loved ones and friends whether to go out to eat, shopping, or just to stop by and visit.   She loved to dance and was always "on the go" but when she relaxed, she would indulge in her favorite sweets and desserts like key lime pie and banana split.

She truly loved her family and her church family and would do anything that she could for anyone. As their #1 cheerleader, Gale happily attended any and every event (chorus, football, theatre, etc.) that involved her children. She was a proud "military mom" who was extremely excited when AJ and his family came home to visit.  She would get excited at the mention of her children and grandchildren and cherished every moment with them and certainly when it involved traveling and vacationing.  Gale constantly gave uplifting support to many but especially, to her children and grandchildren.  She was a praying mother of strong faith and would always say" God's got it" or "Give it to the Lord."

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Wilbur A. Brooks. Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, niece, and friend will be deeply missed by all.  Gale leaves to cherish precious memories one daughter Tanya Morris Atkins and one son, Anthony E. Morris, Jr. (LaTosha); three grandchildren Drew, Amyah, and Josiah; one sister Regina M. Lee; three brothers Regionald M. King, Jr., Ralph M. King (Lisa), and Dennis R. King (Terra);  two stepsons Taurence and Darian Brooks; six sisters-in-law; three brothers-in law; three uncles James, Jr. (Roberta), John (Willa), and Richard (Catherine); three aunts Clara, Blanche (Herbert), and Shirley (Joel); devoted friends (Ellen, Linda, Belinda, Niecy, Velma), caring co-workers; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends.

We are deeply saddened by her passing and she will be truly be missed and there will be an empty place in our hearts.  Yet, we know God's plan is best and as she is no longer suffering and has earned her crown in glory.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.  Psalms 116:15
