Obituary

Geneva Elizabeth Peatross Brown was born on February 3, 1949, to the late Wynda Joe Peatross and Vandelia Mary Harris Peatross. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Wilbert and Edmond Peatross; three sisters, Myrtle Peatross Johnson (Landron), Hannah Peatross Smith (Perry Wilson), and Pearl Peatross Smith (Alroy); two brothers- in-law, Sylvester Brown and McKinley Rollins; and two sisters-in-law, Delores Brown and Geneva Green.

On Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 10:02 AM, Geneva transitioned into eternal rest at the home of James and Sherry Brown in Glen Allen, VA. She lived a life that exemplified the love of God, having accepted Christ at an early age. Geneva joined the First Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where she was baptized under the leadership of the late Reverend J.L. Hobson. She was a faithful and dedicated member, serving as a missionary and devoting her life to the service of the Lord.

Geneva received her education from Caroline County Public Schools in Bowling Green, VA. She excelled in English and developed a lifelong love for reading. Her passion for novels, poetry, and articles of interest laid the foundation for her growth as an avid reader. Most significantly, her devotion to reading the Word of God fostered a deep and personal relationship with the Lord. Through all her trials and tribulations, Geneva maintained a steadfast faith, always giving God the glory and finding strength and help in Him.

On April 1, 1967, Geneva united in holy matrimony with Virgil Cornelius Brown. Their blessed union was enriched with two children, Carl and Michelle.

Geneva's family affectionately gave her many endearing nicknames that reflected her loving nature. Her beloved husband was the first to call her "Baby Cake," and she lovingly returned the favor. Her son was the first to call her "Mother," while her grandsons and great-granddaughters cherished her as "Grandma." Among friends and family, she was also lovingly referred to as "Jenny Vee." A virtuous and humble woman, Geneva was known for her wisdom, compassion, and unwavering faith. To everyone she met, her parting words were always, "I love you." On December 21, 2024, she became victorious, gaining her heavenly wings and entering into eternal glory.

Geneva's passions included cooking for her family and friends, creating cherished dishes such as her famous potato salad, sweet potato pies, and blueberry cobbler. She loved reading, traveling, and spending precious moments with her family and her two "furry" pets, Blue and Jerome.

Her greatest legacy, however, was her ability to demonstrate profound, selflessness, and compassionate love. Geneva believed in giving without expecting anything in return, embodying the essence of a born-again Christian and a true child of God.

God welcomed Geneva home after blessing her family and friends with her unconditional love, wisdom, and guidance for seventy-five beautiful years. Her memory will be forever treasured by her loving husband, Virgil Cornelius Brown; devoted son, Carl Brown Sr. (Wendy) of Burlington, NC; devoted daughter, Michelle Brown (Carl) of Hanover, VA; four grandsons: Reggie Terrell (Ashley) of Glen Allen, VA; Carl Brown Jr. and Deon Terrell of Ruther Glen, VA; and Shawn Terrell of Glen Allen, VA; and four great- grandchildren: Londyn Terrell, Bryce Terrell, Janiya Brown, and Kiara Johnson. Geneva also leaves behind her devoted niece, Rev. Sherry Brown (James) of Glen Allen, VA; five sisters-in-law: Ilene Brown of Arlington, VA; Urcell Coleman (Phillip), Veraline Jackson, Verna Fountain (Eddie), and Sandra Brown, all of Ruther Glen, VA; as well as a host of other loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Geneva's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, her boundless love, and her dedication to her family and community. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
