Obituary

"Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).

Gilbert Lloyd Minor Sr., son of the late Gilbert C. Minor and Gladys Derricotte was born on June 5, 1929 in Caroline County, Virginia.  God called him home to eternal rest Monday, November 2, 2020.  His wife Lois preceded him in death.

At an early age, Gilbert gave his life to Christ and joined The Oxford Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ruther Glen, Virginia, where he served as a trustee for several years.  He later transferred his membership to the Jerusalem Baptist Church in Doswell, Virginia, and was faithful in attending Worship Service, Bible Study and Sunday school. He was an active member of the Missionary Auxiliary, where he served as Vice President.  Also he enjoyed attending the weekly Seniors in Action Fellowship.

Gilbert was educated in the Caroline County Public School System.  Upon graduating, he attended Maryland State College, now known as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.  He graduated in 1950, majoring in Industrial Arts Education. While in college, Gilbert became a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.  After graduation he was employed as a high school Industrial Arts teacher in Lexington Park, Maryland.   Later he was employed by the United States Postal Service as a technician mechanic for over 40 years, retiring in 1990.  Being a dependable worker and excelling at his job, Gilbert was awarded for his dedicated service there.

After uniting in Holy Matrimony to Marion Lois Young on July 7, 1962, together they reared eleven children.  One of Gilbert's greatest attributes was the sound advice and guidance he provided to their children, grandchildren and any others who may have needed advice.  He will always be fondly remembered as the last first cousin of Joseph and Laura Derricotte's children.

Cherishing his life and keeping his memory alive in their hearts are his loving and devoted children; Gladys Carson, Cynthia Winston (Raymond), Gilbert Minor, Jr. (Vivian), Larry Johnson, Reginald Johnson, Victor Minor, Sonja Lawson (Wayne), Sheryl Brown (Kevin), Bryan Minor (Marsha), Walton Minor (Katina), and Sean Minor; twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren; six sisters-in-law, Helen Claiborne, Frances Glover (Edward), Yvonne Akins, Louise Young, Patricia Young and Gwendolyn Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
