Grace A.
Patterson
March 7, 1920 – December 19, 2018
Grace Ann Abrams Patterson, 98 of Ashland peacefully transitioned at her daughter's home on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Grace was born in Richmond, VA to the late Ned and Malissa Pemberton Abrams on March 7, 1920. Educated at the Wickham School and Hanover Training School in Ashland, Grace held many jobs in the area before retiring from Holly Farms after more than twenty years of service. She was a very faithful and committed member of Providence Baptist Church for over 90 years and participated in the Senior Choir, Pastor's Aide Ministry, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Bible Study. For several years prior to her passing, she was very honored to be recognized as the "Mother of Providence Baptist Church."
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Ned and Malissa Abrams; her husband, James Temple Patterson; her siblings, James, Ned, Katherine, and Howard Abrams, Thomas Pemberton and Patty Henry Cash; and her son-in-law, William T. Mines Jr.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Marguerite Patterson Mines; three loving granddaughters, Paula Mines Austin (Tony), Julie Mines and Sheri Mines; one great-granddaughter, Toni Malissa Austin; one bonus granddaughter, Angela Buckner; an extremely dedicated family member, Joseph T. Mines; her furry best friend, Sophia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, church family and friends.
Our Granny Grace was a quiet, yet vigorous woman with endless kindness, compassion, love and GRACE. Her faith. Her drive. Her courage. Her determination. Her humility. They all tell the story of her purpose, as well as the strong influence and inspiration that she has had on our lives and will continue long after today. She was our daily blessing in plain sight.
Her favorite quotes were, "You might give out, but never GIVE UP!" and "Pray. Always Pray."
Her faith and her love of the Lord were limitless; being a member of Providence Baptist Church for over 90 years gave her so much joy and peace. One of her most fervent wishes was to continue to help and support her church after she's gone. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that any memorial contributions and donations be made to the Building Fund at Providence Baptist Church.
