OBITUARY OF HARDY H. TINSLEY SR. Deacon Hardy Herman Tinsley, Sr. born JuIy 9, 1929 to the late Rlchard Fitzhugh Tinsley and Mary Virginia Gaines, joined church at 19 years old. He worked very hard to help support his family and served in the United States Army. He married the former Julia Ray Dabney of Ashland, VA. and gained a son, Leslie Dabney(Gladys). Five children were born to this union; Hardy H. Tinsley Jr.(Crystal), Craige M. Tinsley(deceased),Florence B.White(Claude) Stacey T. Allen(deceased) and Vonda D. Tinsley. He also leaves 12-grandchildren 7-great-grandchildrenr 2 sisters Viola Trimiew and Lacy Jackson, a host of nieces and nephews. He supported his family by working many jobs; Carneal Store, Warner Lawrence Farm, Miller & Rhodes, Samson Paint Company and retired from FFV Cookie Factory in 1988 after serving 35 years. During his whole employment period, he continued to find time to farm and raise livestock. His family looked up to him,appreciated his hard work and loved him very much. Presently he served as an active and faithful member of the Deacon Board and Male Chorus of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Many things that he has done to support his church and the church family, if anyone was in need of anything,work that needed to be done, if anyone was in the need of anything even visiting the sick & shut-in on a regular basis-he was right there. He loved to serve the Lord and testify about what the Lord has done for him. Over the years he has faithfully served as a member and attended a number of different organizations including NAACP, Hanover County Civic Association, and the VA State Baptist Deacons Convention & Women's Auxiliary Inc. He has served in his church as past Treasurer, Assistant President of the Missionary Circle, Treasurer of the Church Mission, President of the Missionary Disbursement Fund,Sunday School Superintendent,Sunday School Teacher and Chairman of the Deacon Board for 30 years. He served as Chaplain and on the Percentage Committee for the CBA Sunday School Union #1, was the past Chairman of the Program Committee for the CBA Deacons Conference & Women's Auxiliary. He was currently serving as a faithful member of the Hanover Community Choir and as Treasurer for the Hanover Martin L. King Jr. Fund. He was also a member of the Gravel HiIl Hunt Club. He attended for 5 years the Community Bible Study Group under the teaching of Rev. Robert Williams,Pastor of the Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church of Richmond, VA and on June 5, 1988 received a Certificate for Excellency in Christian Instruction from his Church School. On August 8,1992 received a Christian Service Award from the CBA Deacons Conference for dedicated service and on June 15, 1996 received a Citizenship Award from Hanover County Fire Dept for his part in rescuing the Walker family from their burning home, with help from other members of the Church. On June 23, 1996 received an Ambassador of the Board Award for Outstanding Commitment and Dedication in the Church and community from the Deacon Board of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. More recently on November 2,20l3, he was one of the Honorees during a fundraising event for Pioneer Days, in support of the John W.Roane Scholarship. Deacon Hardy H, Tinsley, Sr., your task on this Earth has been completed, no more pains to endure here,so rest in peace. Your family will surely miss you and will always love and remember you.
