Helen Pauline
Anderson Derricott
April 6, 1939 – April 6, 2021
The Life and Love of
Helen Pauline Anderson Derricott
"Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31:31
Very quietly and peacefully, on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, our Heavenly Father dispatched his angels to guide our loved one to her heavenly home. Helen Pauline Anderson Derricott, 82, peacefully entered into eternal rest at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Helen was born the third child of Marcellus and Quetta Anderson on April 6, 1939 in Hanover County, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, siblings, Charles Anderson and Myrtle Smith, her daughter Loretta Derricott, and her loving husband Earl Vernon Derricott, Sr.
Helen was educated in the Hanover County Public School System. She joined the St. James Baptist Church as a child and served in the Hospitality Ministry, Usher's Ministry and Music Ministry (Senior Choir). Her church was her second home and she loved being in fellowship until her health made it difficult to attend services. Helen worked for many years at several locations (Jarrell's Truck Plaza, Holiday Inn, and Days Inn, Hanover, Virginia) but found joy working in Caroline County Public Schools where she retired after thirty plus devoted years of service.
Helen united in Holy Matrimony to her first love and to this union six wonderful children were born. She loved her family, having a good time, fellowshipping and enjoying life to the fullest. She enjoyed cooking especially making her famous potato salad and sharing her meals with anyone in need. Helen was known best for her loving, joyful and witty personality, always ready to share a funny story and bringing laughter to brighten up the fellowship. Helen loved watching Hawaii Five O, HPD and was often heard saying "Bookem Dano when scolding her children." Helen cherished the times spent with her loved ones, friends and especially her grandchildren who always wanted to spend most of their time with "Grandma." She shared a loving bond with each of them and you would see her smiling ear to ear whenever they were around. Her loving bond with her children and grandchildren will live on in their hearts forever.
Helen leaves to cherish her precious memories, children; Glenda (Lamont) Freeman, Doris (James) Daniels, Earl V. Derricott, Jr., Bruce (Cynthia) Derricott, and Iris (Tanzi) Flournoy. Fourteen grandchildren; Shontae (Jason)Toliver, Mashanda (Bryant) Wellman, Eric Freeman, Jr., Cedric Derricott, Brandon Freeman, Jamie Derricott, Derrick Derricott, Brittany Flournoy, Alexia Derricott, Elaine Derricott, Shon Daniels, Chelsea Derricott, Octavia Flournoy, and Tanzi Flournoy, Jr., and Rashad Penn; Eighteen great-grandchildren, siblings; Gladys Anderson, Edward Anderson, Mattie Anderson, Joyce Anderson, Nora Anderson, Levi Anderson, Earl Anderson and Pamela Anderson-Lewis, one aunt Reverend Iola Smith, one uncle Deacon Spencer Curtis, Sr., sister-in-laws Patricia Cary and Thelma Mack, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends, Lelia Derricott, Martha Holmes, Willie Pryor, Bertha Derricott and Minister Antonio Brooks.
Helen was a great inspiration to so many and we are very saddened by her passing. However, we rejoice because she is forever with the Lord in His beautiful kingdom. She will be tremendously missed by all of us and her beautiful spirit will remain eternally engraved in our hearts.
