Henry Lee Derricott, 78, gained his wings on Wednesday July 17, 2024, at his home in Hanover, VA, with his wife Bertha Louise at his side.
Henry Lee was born to the late John and Beulah Derricott on November 13, 1945. Henry Lee accepted Christ at an early age at Calvary Episcopal Church under the leadership of Rev. Thomas D. Brown. He was a faithful member until his demise. He attended the Cavalry Mission School and J.M. Gandy in Ashland, VA Henry Lee joined the army on December 11, 1967, serving in the Vietnam War with an honorable discharge on December 17, 1969. He went on to work at Cabin Hill Farm in Hanover, Haley's Excelsior Mill in Caroline, and retired with many years of service from F. G. Pruitt Inc. Henry Lee enjoyed and loved to sing, dance, hunt, fish, and driving heavy equipment with his CDL. Henry Lee loved to entertain, cooking his deer ribs and salmon on the grill. He loved to garden; and even with both legs amputated, he continued to cut his grass and decorate the yard and house for all holidays. Henry Lee was a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Beulah; brother Richard Tucker; daughter Angie Smith; and brother-in-law Edmond Tillman.
Henry Lee will be truly missed by his devoted family. He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his wife, Bertha Louise, with whom he shared 52 years; one son, Avery (Stephanie); two daughters Brenda (John) and Sharon; one son-in-law Darryl Smith; nine grandchildren, Lashay, Quincy, Shante (Will), Darryl Wayne (Kandi), Danielle, Rashad, Ciera, Shakiel, and Shakel; seven great-grandchildren, Makhiya, Marlei, Mila, lyana, Shamya, Noelle, and Logan; 1 great-great-grandchild, Katlyn; three siblings, J. Wallace (Jean), Carolyn, and Jane (Lewis); three sisters-in-law, Martha, Joyce, and Easter (George); two brothers-in-law, Daniel and McKindley (Elizabeth); and a host of adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including W. B. Hunt Club.
