September 3, 1930 – June 17, 2020
Henry Solomon Quash was born on September 3, 1930 to the late Samuel and Bessie Stevens Quash in Dawn, Virginia. His wife, Mary Louise, parents, siblings (Sallie, Robert, Joan, Anthony, Charles, Sherman, and Cynthia); grandson, Christopher Davis-Quash; great-grandson, Zarrik Garnett preceded him in death.
Henry was educated in the Caroline County Public Schools System and graduated in June 1948 from Union High School in Bowling Green, Virginia.
Henry joined Second Mount Zion Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member until the Lord called him home Wednesday morning, June 17, 2020. While a member he served as a Trustee, President of the Men's Chorus, President of the Men's Fellowship Ministry, and the Senior Choir.
He was employed at Washington Gas & Light Company, Springfield, Virginia for 30 years. After retiring from the Gas Company in 1985, he was instrumental in establishing the Frog Level Volunteer Rescue Squad. After the Rescue Squad was established, Henry became a certified EMT and responded to all kinds of emergency calls assisting residents of the surrounding areas. Never once complaining. He was later voted in as Captain of the Rescue Squad. Henry was never one to sit around and do nothing, so decided to seek employment with the local 7-11 in Doswell, Virginia on a part-time basis. There he worked for ten years. The customers always looked forward to chatting with him every morning.
Henry was a Mason with the Prince Hall Masonic Welcome Lodge 125 and was a Veteran of the United States Army.
Henry affectionately called – Dad, Daddy, Daddy Henry, Papa, Grandpa, Uncle Henry, H, Captain 500 was a great husband, father, brother, and was loved by all. We will miss his warm friendly smile and infectious laugh, he was an extraordinary individual.
On March 5, 1955 he was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life – his late wife, Mary Louise Fells. From this union they were blessed with seven children and was married for 59 years.
Henry leaves to cherish his memories, seven children, Myron (Shelia), Pamela Garnett, Stephanie Merrill (Quentin), Henry C., Harolynn-Poochie, Quentin, Sterling (Nelneeta); 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Burruss, Alma Jones; three brothers, Stanley (Connie), Bryan (Ann), Raymond (Ruth); sister-in-laws, Mattie Quash, Gloria Quash, Marie Fells and Dorothy Fells; a host of nieces, nephews; and other relatives. Devoted caregivers, Jasmine Harris, Tiffany Cole, Mary Jo Adams, and Yaya Norwood.
