Obituary

Henry Wendell Robinson, Sr. (Chiefy) was born on June 19, 1942 to the late Lannie and Ollie Robinson.  He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Lillian Brooks Robinson, two sisters, Edith Robinson Brooks, and Lannie Bea Robinson, four brothers, Percell, Harry, Thomas and Earl Robinson.

He entered into eternal rest on June 3, 2019 at Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center surrounded by family and loved ones. He attended Hanover County Public Schools and graduated from John M. Gandy High School in 1961.  He joined with the Jerusalem Baptist Church at age 11,  and was a very active member until his passing.

Henry was joined in holy matrimony to Lillian (Cookie) Brooks on June 29, 1968 and to this union, two sons were born,  Henry,  Jr., and Timothy Robinson.

He  served in the United States Army from 1964 - 1967 and was honorably discharged.  Henry loved his family, church, and taking trips to various places in Virginia and beyond.

Henry was a great lover of nature.  He would often talk about the trees when they changed colors in the Fall.  He loved the various seasons and watching the beauty of God's handiwork.

Henry retired from Reynolds Metals Company/Alcoa after 38 ½  years.  He worked hard and loved providing for his family.  Henry loved the Lord and served him faithfully.  He was an esteemed Deacon, who served Jerusalem faithfully for many years.  He also  sang on the Senior Choir, Men's Chorus, and Mass Choir.  He also used to serve as a Jr. Usher. He was an active member of the Seniors In Action ministry.  Henry was a man of few words but when he spoke, he said what he meant, and he meant what he said.  He was a very humble man who did everything in love.  At Homecoming, you could count on Deacon Robinson to tell his story about how things were when he was young and enjoying homecoming dinner being served outside.

"Chiefy" loved to help others and was very generous.  He loved to garden and share his vegetable with family, neighbors, and friends.  He never wanted to be recognized for anything he did.  He and his late wife always wanted to remain anonymous when it came to giving.  Henry got so much joy out of visiting those who were sick and shut in.  He loved sharing the gospel and testifying to the goodness of God!  Henry enjoyed traveling to the mountains, enjoyed picking apples and shopping at the little "Mom & Pop" stores along the way.  This was a tradition started with his late wife, Lillian who he affectionately called "Lilly" and continued after her passing.

Henry enjoyed the companionship of a special and devoted friend, Ms. Annie Tyree.  They enjoyed each other's companionship and had a lot in common.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving family, two sons, Henry, Jr. and Timothy Robinson, one sister, Lucille Pleasants, one brother-in-law, William Brooks, Jr.  (Doris) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends to include Annie Lucas, Beverly Robinson, Gerald Lucas and Barbara Ann Miller.
