James Manuel Hicks was born to the late James and Alberta Hicks in Richmond, VA. He attended Hanover County Public School s where he played football for Patrick Henry High School. He retired from Bear Island Paper Company in Gum Tree, VA.


He was proceeded in death by his wife Cheryl Hicks and daughter TaQuita Hic ks - Glass .


James was a dedicated, hard worker. He lo ved playing spades, bid - whist, fishing, and boating.
He had such a BIG and GIVING heart, h is laugh could be heard from miles away and would l ight up any room he walked into. He w as know n to so me as Hicks but to most peo ple he was just Jimmy. He joined Mt . C armel Baptist Ch urch at a young age. Then later in life where he was directed by God to become a n active me mber at Jericho B aptist Church in Ruther Glen, VA. He att ended Sunday School and Bible Study faithfully .

In April 2022 James moved to be with his sister in Virginia Beach, Va. There he att ended The Judah House of Praise.


James leaves to cher ish h is memo ry, a stepmother Susie Hicks of Hanover County; t wo daughters , Claudette (J amel) Shabazz of N. Chesterfiel d and Michelle (Kenneth) Williams of Texas. Eight grandchi ldren Robert and Iylana Glass o f North Carolina, Cordell, Zion, Ava and Shiloh of N. Chesterfie ld, and Kamesha and M alik Williams of Texas; two sisters Peggy Blackwell of Hanover, VA and Pamela (Trenton) Daniel of Virginia Be ach, V A; t hree aunt s Sarah Nelson, Er n estine (Edward) Waller and Annie Hoover. Two uncles Ollie B ertr and and La wrence (Lois) Bertrand. Four nieces Jayme B lackwell, Julie (Dar re ll) Craft, Ta Shauna (Dua ne) Lawrence and TaKnesha (Jonathan) Brown. Six great n
ieces and t hree great nephew s as well as a dedicated and loving, crazy cousi n Angela Terrell, caring special cousin Ronald Curtis, and a host of loving family and friends.
