James "Jimmy"
Lewis Carter, Jr.
June 13, 1938 – August 27, 2024
James "Jimmy" Lewis Carter, Jr. was born in Caroline County, Virginia to late Lewis Carter and the Late Maude Harris. He peacefully departed his life Tuesday morning, August 27, 2024, at his residence, 7306 Foxal Road, Mechanicsville, Virginia.
Jimmy as he was known by family and friends, confessed Christ and was baptized by Pastor Curtis Harris, Sr.
Jimmy was employed at Williamsburg's Mill Works, Atlas Lumber Company for over 60 years of employment where he met and made lasting friends. He was always on time for work. He would visit his old home site on Courtney Road on his way to work. He became our timekeeper alerting us that it was time for the school bus. A man who worked for more than 60 years with no intent of retiring, speaks volume of work ethic.
Jimmy received his formal education in the Caroline County Public School System. His lifelong passions were hunting and fishing. On one occasion, he killed a huge deer and had to come get help from the boys to help him drag the deer to his truck. Might I say with his chest poked out and a big smile on his face taunting the boys saying, "That's how it is done, boys". On long summer days you could find him on the riverbank fishing. He enjoyed visiting with Cheryl on Saturday and Sunday sitting in the kitchen drinking hot coffee and talking smack.
In the community he was loved and respected, because he gave love and respect. He was known for his warm personality, big smile and even bigger heart. He gave freely of himself always lending a helping hand. I am sure there are some people who still owe him money. For those who tried to pay him back, he would just say "Keep it". He loved playing baseball and traveling with the girls' softball team the Green Hornets in and out of the community during his younger years.
His love for EVA for over forty years was a mixture of love, happiness, truth and joy shared. He was a good father figure to all the children whom he helped raise and loved. A good brother, uncle and a gentle giant to all.
Jimmy would not have us mourn his passing but rejoice in his new birth and release him for his next adventure.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, devoted wife Eva; one step-daughter, Brenda Winston of McDough, Georgia; two step-grandchildren; Lorenzo (Kimberly) Weatherless and Michael (Ebony) Weatherless; ten great grandchildren; one sister; Peggy Armstead of Williamsburg, Va; two brothers; Earl Carter of Rock Hall Maryland and Robert (Christine) Carter of Ashland Va.; one uncle; Deacon Curtis Harris Sr. extended family; one brother-in-law Alphonso Robinson; Tracy Curtis and Stacy (Artic) Norris, a host of nieces, devoted Cheryl other relatives and friends.
