James Stuart
Mines, Sr.
July 14, 1939 – January 7, 2024
James Stuart Mines Sr., lovingly known as "Skeezy" and "Big Man" by family and friends, was called to rest with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 7, 2024. Born on July 14, 1939, in Hanover, VA, he was the seventh of twelve children born to the late Emmit Ashby Mines, Sr. and Ida Burrell Mines. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Carolyn Ann; seven brothers George Burrell, Curtis Chamberlain, John, Emmitt, Rufus, William, and Percy Mines; and one sister, Catherine Robinson.
James attended John Gandy School. Upon leaving, he worked at a sawmill and then joined the U. S. Army. Upon discharge from the Army, he had various careers including truck driving and sales at a car dealership. James was a family man with a loving heart and a special love for children.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son James Mines Jr.; his daughter Geraldine Brown; stepchildren and grandchildren; brother Joseph Mines; sisters Ruth Braxton and Ida Anderson; his sister-in-law Clarette Mines; niece TriVonda Mines, who cared for him; and a host of other relatives and friend.
