Jerome Delaware King, Sr., known by most as "Jerry" was born to James D. King and Shirley Ann King on December 9, 1955. He departed this life August 1, 2020. Jerry grew up in the Brown Grove Community in Ashland, Virginia. Jerry attended Hanover County Public Schools and graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1974. Upon graduation, he attended Virginia State University for 2 years. Jerry also served in the United States Marine Corps for 7.5 years. After serving his country, Jerry entered the workforce and became employed at Richfood/Supervalue where he would remain for 27 years.
Jerry was married to Doretta Miles (m. 1983-2013). Together they reared 3 sons, Deiran Green (Dee), Jerome "JD" King Jr., and Carlos King (Clarice). Jerry was also a grandfather (Poppy) to 3, Micah King, Mecca Green, and Elijah King. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, father in law, uncle, coach, and friend.
Jerry was a big sports fan but more importantly a huge LA Lakers and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. In his retirement, Jerry enjoyed watching sports with his "Bdubs Crew".
Jerry leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Shirley King; sons, Deiran Green, Jerome King Jr. (Whitney), and Carlos King (Clarice); brothers, Marcus King, James King, and Torrey King;, grandchildren, Micah King, Mecca Green, and Elijah King, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
