Jerry Leon Grimes, 70, entered eternal life, Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 29, 1950 to the late Archie L. Grimes, Sr. and Martha T. Grimes Anderson. He was educated in the Hanover County Public School System. He accepted Christ at an early age, rededicated his life in his latter years and became a dedicated and faithful member of Providence Baptist Church, where he attended and served diligently with a smile and a grateful heart. Jerry was employed with Boschen Masonry, where he was a dedicated employee for more than 40 years, until his retirement in 2017. Jerry was a friendly and outgoing person who could be seen riding his bicycle throughout town, often stopping to talk with many along his ride. He was a die-hard fan of the Miami Dolphins. Jerry loved his family and enjoyed hanging out with his brother and sister. He especially enjoyed the meals fixed by Robin and the late night calls with Greg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie L. Grimes, Sr. and Martha T. Grimes
Anderson; four brothers, Archie, Michael, Winslow and Joseph Grimes; two sisters, Laura Harris
and Shelia Grimes. He is survived by his devoted brother, Sherwood (Greg) Grimes, devoted
sister, Robin Mason; three aunts, Martha Tucker, Gloria Fields and Lathania Braxton; four
nieces, Marcella Goodall (Mervin), Shawn Goodall-Few, Carnessa Thurston and September
Goodall; four nephews, Mark and Edwin Harris, Kenneth and Rendell Mason; fourteen great
nieces and nephews and five great great nieces and nephews, and devoted partner, Darlene Smith as well as a
host of other relatives and friends, among them are devoted Darrell Johnson, Arthur Straus
,
Jessie Anderson and Ann Cherry.
