John Wallace
Anderson "Horseman"
February 25, 1947 – April 2, 2024
John Wallace Anderson, affectionately known by family and friends as Horseman gained his wings on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the Westport Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Henrico County, Virginia. John Wallace was born on February 25, 1947, to the late John Samuel Anderson, Jr. and Mary Lewis Robinson Anderson.
John Wallace accepted Christ at an early age and joined Jerusalem Baptist Church in Doswell, Virginia, under the leadership of Reverend Lee. Later, he moved his church membership to Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Marvin Fields. He was an active member of the usher's ministry and attended church on a regular basis until his health declined.
John received his education in the Hanover County Public Schools and graduated from John M. Gandy High School in 1966. After graduation, he was drafted into the United Stated Army and served from September 28, 1966, to September 27, 1968. During his military career, he had several accomplishments and received special awards, one of which was a Bronze Star for his year-long service during the Vietnam War.
John was employed at Lewis Business Form, Bear Island and Creative Conservation. He never met a stranger and acquired lifelong friends throughout his civilian and military careers. He enjoyed meeting up with his retired friends at McDonald's and Walmart to "shoot the breeze" and reminisce about old times. Every Sunday was a great Sunday because he spent time and had dinner with his siblings. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren who fondly addressed him as PaPa John.
John Wallace was a die-hard fan of the New York Yankees, the Washington Commanders (formerly Washington Redskins) and the Los Angeles Lakers. Also, he was an avid hunter who loved spending time in the woods with fellow hunters. He was known as being a sharp dressed and always looking and smelling good. He made sure that his attire was well-coordinated from head to toe, and he never left home without a cap or his fedora, which he had a special was of wearing. It really made his day when someone said, "John, you really look nice."
In addition to his parents, John Wallace was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Catherine Mines and one brother, Melvin Samuel Anderson.
John Wallace leaves cherished and loving memories to his wife of 28 years Gloria Jean "Teeny" Goodall Anderson; one son, Shaun (Kimberly) Goodall: grandchildren, Xavier (Dasia), Zaria, Yasmin, Laylah, Crew (Lil' Man); three devoted sisters: Thelma Smithers, Marion Harris, and Garnetta Lucas; one devoted brother, Ernest Anderson (Cleo); two devoted nephews, Donald Smithers and "Sojo" Goodall; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Anderson, Shirley Smithers (Wade), and Gladys Goodall, brother-in-law, Nelson Goodall (Oraine), devoted aunt, Eloise Romaine, and many other relatives and friends.
