John Thomas
Jones
March 5, 1940 – August 17, 2021
John Thomas Jones (a
ff
ectionately known as Jack) born March 5, 1940 in
Pittsylvania County, VA to Mitchell Womack and Martha M. Jones,
departed this life on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 after a lengthy illness.
Living in a rural area of Virginia, John attended Shockoe Elementary
School and later Southside High School in Blairs, Virginia.
His early years were spent on a farm in Virginia but Jack quickly realized
that farm life was not for him—barns, tobacco, farm animals—oh my! He
set his sights on seeing the world and in 1960 John enlisted in the United
States Army. Finally, a way to escape that lifestyle!
His career in the United States Army a
ff
orded him an opportunity to be
adventurous—he traveled—to Germany, speci
fi
cally. A big di
ff
erence
from the farm life in Virginia! Upon his return from the Service in the fall of
1963, John still had a desire to explore the world.
He spent time in and around the Washington, DC metropolitan area in the
early to mid 1980s before moving and settling down in Richmond, VA. There he
met his late wife, Deborah Ann Jones whom he loved dearly
and shared many memories.
John loved life. He was an avid billiard player and attended many
professional billiard tournaments. He loved to have conversations at
breakfast with his comrades at McDonalds. John attended Faith
Landmark Ministries in Richmond, Virginia.
Preceded in death are his parents, Mitchell Womack and Martha M. (Jones
Adams) Edmonds; his beloved wife, Deborah Ann Jones, sister, Evelyn
Mae Pritchett, and sister, Willie Dean Lewis.
John is survived by his son, Michael Jonathan Jones (Tracy); brother, James E. Adams (Linda); sister, Sue A. Satis fi eld (Horace); sister, Sarah J. Young (Eugene); sister, Edna C. Brathwaite; brother, Tracy J. Adams (Zenaida), along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and cherished friends.
