John Wayne Simmons, 69, son of Maria Simmons and the late John Warren Simmons was born on August 2, 1950 in Baskerville, VA and departed this life on April 25, 2020.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Sharon Baptist Church, in South Hill, VA. He later joined Mangohick Baptist Church, Mangohick, VA where he worshiped faithfully. John, known for helping people, was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He attended East End High School and graduated in 1968. John continued his education at Norfolk State University where he graduated in 1970 with a degree in Electronics. He was employed by Dominion Virginia Power with 27 years of service. He later was employed by Winn's Bus Company and retired from Lowe's in 2015.
John enjoyed fishing with Ernest Holmes, Russell Bennett and Danny Anderson. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family. He was known for his well - manicured lawn. John was united as one to Louise on April 29, 2013. They enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Europe, Las Vegas, Alaska, the Vatican and Beverly Hills, California. They also enjoyed taking cruises.
He will be dearly missed by his devoted wife, Louise; children Jabahri Simmons (Neelum), Jenika Simmons, Kerry Johnson (Shelton) and Sabrina Robinson (Quinn); six grandchildren Nyla Grocholski, Izaias, Siyani, Ihsan, Zara Simmons and Ariana Johnson. He also leaves to cherish his memory two sisters Glorious Bennett (Willie) of Bracey, VA and Betty Brown (Wayne) of Milton, MA; brother in-law, Dereck Carter; uncles, Ruben Simmons of Baskerville, VA, George Simmons of Athens, VT and Benjamin Simmons (Aleta) of South Hill, VA; aunts, Sallie Walker of Richmond, VA and Rosa Lee Simmons of Baskerville, VA. He will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, one devoted cousin and his Bid Whist partner, Leon Simmons and devoted friends, Russell Bennett, Robert Spurlock and other cousins and friends.
