Joseph Pleasants,
Jr. "Junie Bug"
December 22, 1958 – September 3, 2022
Joseph Pleasants Jr., affectionately known as "Junie Bug" was born December 22, 1958 to Joseph and Adelle Pleasants of Ruther Glen, VA. Throughout his youth years, Joseph attended church alongside his father at Mount Calvary Baptist Church and later accepted Christ at an early age. Joseph attended Caroline County Public Schools where he earned his high school diploma. In middle school Joseph's extraordinary football skills allowed him to earn a spot on the high school team and Joseph continued to play throughout his schooling. Joseph has always had a love for hunting, motorcycles, cars, and fixing things. Following high school, Joseph enlisted into the United States Marine Corps from the years of 1979 to 1989. It was there he met the love of his life, Nancy Marks.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, Joseph and Nancy went on to raise five children Brandy (who preceded him in death), Brittanie Phillips (Jamar), Alan, Jonathan, and Tyler. Joseph was employed by Wood Lawn, a tree cutting service, and later went to work for the United States Postal Service where he retired in April 2022. Joseph spent his last days enjoying being a Pop-Pop to his devoted granddaughter Serenity, spending time with his wife Nancy and his children. He enjoyed his time with the D6 Hunting Club, fishing with friends, and he was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
Joseph will always be remembered for his no-nonsense, yet caring attitude. He was leader, a strong fatherly figure, a noble, but humble man. He was one who could light up the dance floor anywhere. You couldn't find a better friend than Joseph.
On September 3, 2022, Joseph departed this life and entered eternal rest. Joseph is proceeded in death by his parents Joseph and Adelle Pleasants, daughter Brandy, brother James (Gloria), and sister Linda Flannagan. He leaves cherished memories to his devoted wife Nancy Marks-Pleasants, four children, Brittanie Phillips (Jamar), Alan, Jonathan, and Tyler, five grandchildren, Nia, Kylan, Isiah, Serenity, and Khalil. One brother Robert, one sister, Evelyn, one uncle, Buck, nephews and nieces Kevin, Latoyoa, Lance, Robert, LaTrice, Joshua, Jessica, Edward and a host of loving in-laws, great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
