Obituary

On Monday, March 13, 2023, the Lord picked from his lovely garden our loved one, Julia Walker Johnson. She entered into eternal rest with her son and daughter-in-law by her bedside. She was born on June 8, 1942 to the late James Arthur and Gladys Estelle Walker in Hanover, Virginia.

She was educated in the Hanover County public school system and graduated from John M. Gandy High School. After graduating from high, she attended Technical School and received her Cosmetology License.

Julia accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized into the fellowship of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend Warren Evans. She served her church faithfully and was a member of the Pastor's Aid Group and the Senior Missionary Circle.

She was employed by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles for 35 years and retired from there. She also used her training as a cosmetologist to serve as the community's hair stylist for women and children for many years.

Julia married Oliver J. Johnson, Jr. and from their union one child was born.

She was a loyal family member who looked out for everyone. She had a warm personality and a love for people. While she possessed a quiet disposition, her bright and radiant smile spoke to the nature of her heart. She touched the lives of so many people and she will be dearly missed.

Preceding Julia in death are her parents, husband, Oliver Johnson, Jr.; brothers James D. Walker and Malachi Walker; and sister Edmonia Estell Walker Carter; and stepson Larry Johnson.

Celebrating her memory is her son Oliver M. Johnson, Sr. (Chiquila); Oliver's siblings Cynthia Winston (Raymond), and Reggie Johnson; her grandchildren Oliver Johnson, Jr., MacGorine Mansaray, Kendall Johnson, Kavon Johnson, Na'amah Cassell, Charnette Brown, Raymond Winston, Jr., Shawnada Winston, Larry Johnson, Jr., Lateake Turner, Sherita Johnson and Tasha Johnson; great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law Dorothy Boone, Margaret Roye, Nancy Bray, Ruby Washington, and Linda Moore (Carroll Moore, Sr.); one brother-in-law Harry L. Carter, Jr.; aka "Bo", and a host of other relatives and friends.
