Kate Ester
Green Winston
July 10, 1944 – February 29, 2020
The Lord Jesus Christ received Kate Ester Winston into His eternal presence on Saturday, February 29, 2020 where she departed her life at the Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Kate was born to Beverly Green, Sr. of Caroline County and Kate Harris Green of Hanover County who were a deacon and deaconess at the Greater Nazarene Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, Virginia
Kate received her formal education at John M. Gandy Public School in Ashland, Virginia as well as at the Number Five District School on Georgetown Road in Hanover County. For her salvation, Kate received the Lord Jesus Christ when she was a teenager and she was baptized under the pastoral ministry of Rev. Elijah Hill, former pastor of the Greater Nazarene Baptist Church; likewise, she committed herself in serving in the senior choir, usher's ministry, and in community food fund raising for the church. Kate also contributed her talents in helping organize the Green Twilight Gospel Singers with her brothers, nieces, nephew, and friends.
For several years Kate worked at the Barksdale Theater in Hanover County as well as the Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia. She loved to cook, bake, travel, and shop. Kate always dressed modestly.
Kate leaves to cherish her memory four sons: Clayton Winston (Loris) of Hanover, Virginia, Wilbur Winston of Hanover County, and Minister David Winston (June) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Kenneth Winston of Hanover, Virginia; a grandchild, Clayton Jamel Winston, a great grandchild, Callie Winston, two nieces; three great nieces, one nephew, and a host of beloved friends for many years.
Don't Cry For Me
Don't' cry for me now I have died
For I'm still here, I'm by your side.
My body is gone, but my soul is here;
Please don't shed another tear, I'm still present here all around;
Only my body lies in the ground.
