Simmons, Sr.
April 15, 1954 – August 18, 2022
Larry Darnell Simmons, Sr. entered into eternal rest peacefully Thursday, August 18, 2022. He was born on April 15, 1954 to the late David Simmons, Sr. and Ora Lee Simmons Courtney.
Larry was educated in the Caroline County Public School System. He accepted Christ as his personal savior at Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. David J. Ragland.
Larry was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He will be fondly remembered for his vivacious laughter, his unconditional love for his family, and his extraordinary sense of humor. Larry had a passion for training dogs. He truly thought is was the "Dog Whisperer"! Along his journey, Larry loved repairing cars, running, dancing, and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. Larry's favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren compete in various sports. Larry was extremely proud of all of their accomplishments.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Simmons, mother, Ora Lee Simmons Courtney, and brother, Dennis Simmons.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three children, Larry Simmons, Jr. (Keisha) of Ruther Glen, Virginia, Tashana Menzie (Darrick) of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and Shaniece Simmons of Ruther Glen, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Kolbi Simmons and Amir Simmons of Ruther Glen, Virginia, DarVante Menzie, Caeylin Menzie, DarMari Menzie, DarAvyaan Menzie of Richmond Hill, Georgia, Brycen Jones and Acen Jones of Ruther Glen, Virginia; one brother David Simmons, Jr. (Deanna) of Charlottesville, Virginia; one sister, Barbara Lewis (Jack) of Ruther Glen, Virginia; four nieces, Christina Lewis, Simona Harris, Dr. Matasha Harris, and Tiesha Pleasants; three nephews, Donald Lewis, Dennis Harris, and David Simmons, III; three great-nieces, Shantae Lewis, Mya Harris, and Olivia Simmons; three great-nephews, Quavion Harris, Brandon Lewis, and Edward Simmons; devoted cousin, Clayton Simmons; devoted friends, Eloise Green, Eveline Terrell, Mason Tillman, Kent Green, and a host of other supportive relatives and friends.
