Lawrence Henry
Brooks "Pip"
April 18, 1950 – February 23, 2025
Lawrence Henry Brooks (Pip), 74, the youngest son of the late Levi Jr. and Edith R. Brooks, peacefully transitioned to Heaven on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
Pip honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1971 and remained in the Ready Reserve until March 1, 1976.
He received his education through Hanover County Public Schools, graduating from John M. Gandy High School in 1968. Soon after, he began working at Lewis Business Forms, where his brother Milton Brooks was also employed. Pip continued his career with Lewis Business Forms, remaining with the company through its many changes in ownership and names over the course of more than 30 years. He ultimately retired as Regional Manager, a role that allowed him to travel the country. Throughout his life, Pip was known for his generosity, always willing to share his time and resources with those he loved, to include traveling to Maryland for sporting events for Antoine and Alexis.
A dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Pip also developed a deep affection for Virginia State University's football team, especially after he began dating his wife, Gail. Together, they attended many games. Later, as his daughters Paula and LaWanda became members of the VSU Band, Pip became an enthusiastic supporter of the marching band, attending every home football game through the 2024 season. He could always be found in the stands, near the band and was delighted at the opportunity to join his daughter Jada for a game in the President's box.
Pip was a devoted member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, where he regularly attended services. He had a deep love for the Lord and cherished his Jerusalem Church family. He was an active member of Pride of Hanover Lodge #264, often heading to meetings directly from arrival at the airport. Pip was also a committed member of the Muscle Car Association of Richmond, where he faithfully served in various roles to support the organization.
In addition to his parents, Pip was preceded in death by his God son Antoine Cornell Gordon, father- and mother-in-law Rev. John, Sr. and Violet Gordon, and sister-in-law Gloria Martin. Survivors include his wife, Belinda Gail Brooks, children Paula Hackney (H. Gerarde), LaWanda Wallace (Derell), and Dr. Jada E.
