Obituary

Lawrence Maurice Witcher, 64, departed this life on April 23, 2015. He was born in Richmond, Virginia, on October 29, 1950, to the late Lawrence Israel and Hester Mae Witcher. He accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at St. Peter Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member of the SPBC Male Chorus. He was a member of the legendary Larry Bland and the Volunteer Choir of Richmond for 40 years until his health started to fail. Often times, you would see him playing his favorite percussion instrument in church. He loved to make flower arrangements (poinsettias in particular) during the holidays for family and friends. Lawrence graduated from the former Virginia Randolph High School in Glen Allen, Virginia and briefly attended Norfolk State University. For over 40 years, Lawrence was employed at United States Postal Service with dedication and patience. He was a long time member of the local postal workers union and was loved by many for his charismatic personality and infectious smile. Left to cherish his memory, his devoted wife Gloria Geraldine Witcher, one loving daughter and son-in-law Tonise and Clifton Fuller, Sr.; two grandchildren Alexis Fuller and Clifton Fuller, Jr. one brother Carlton Ennis Witcher; god-son Lavar; one sister-in-law Dianne Preston; two brother-in-laws Henry Preston (Dora); Cornelius Preston (Nicole) and host of devoted aunts; uncles; cousins and a host of other family members. He was a father to his three nieces Davina Heard (Jonathan III. and Jonathan IV.), Jhaileena Preston, and Sadaya Preston. To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord. Lawrence fought a courageous battle and trusted that God would see him through until the end. His faith never waivered and when God called him home, his wife and daughter surrounded him as he transitioned. He was truly at peace.
